LICENSE RENEWAL REQUIREMENTS
FOR THE NEXT RENEWAL MARCH 31, 2025

License Renewal Requirements

• Completion of CEs. (If this is your 1st renewal you are not required to earn CEs)
  But, you are still required to complete trainings on specific topics.
  
• You must complete 30 CEs from approved providers (IMHCA/ICA are approved providers. IDFPR also accepts NBCC and APA approved credits. The provider should be able to give you a provider license number or confirm their NBCC/APA accreditation status).
  
• All 30 CEs can now be earned in any approved format (in person, live webinar, recorded/home study).
  
• The 30 CEs must be earned between April 1, 2023 and March 31, 2025.
  
• You need to apply for renewal online through the IDFPR Portal. IDFPR generally opens up renewal for counselors in January or February, and should send you a notice once you are able to renew.
  
• Renewal fee is $120

(j) Persons required to report child abuse or child neglect as provided under this Section must complete an initial mandated reported training, including a section on implicit bias, within 3 months of their date of engagement in a professional or official capacity as a mandated reporter, or within the time frame of any other applicable State law that governs training requirements for a specific profession, and at least every 3 years thereafter.

This rule change permanently allows all 30 CEs in a renewal period to be "not in person." Effective Jan 28, 2021

CE credits may be earned for successful completion of a course (e.g., by mail, computer, pre-recorded online course/program, live online course/program, etc.) that is offered by an approved sponsor who meets the requirements set forth in subsection (c). Each course shall include an examination.
